Digging Deep to Support a Would-Be Town

Within the quiet forests of Yakona lie the historical remnants of two platted towns from the late 1800s, West Yaquina and Parker’s Addition. These were once the site of twelve to fifteen homes and a school, along with docks and three wells. The wells remain, although they are now dry and might explain why the towns never thrived.

Watch a video of a camera being lowered into one of West Yaquina’s wells.
