william a.“bill” barton

founder/Vice President

Bill is a jury trial lawyer representing injured people. As a social engineer or architect, he operates at the intersection of public policy, economics and legal rights. He was the first attorney to sue the Boy Scouts of America in the case that started legal redress of sexual exploitation. And his was the first case brought against the Vatican for sex abuse by clergy. He has tried over 500 jury trials to verdict, and he authored Recovering for Psychological Injuries, 3rd Ed., considered the authoritative reference in the field. He received the Oregon State Bar’s highest award, and has been featured on the cover of Super Lawyers magazine.  Bill assumes the persona of Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court (1841-1935), in a presentation delivered at many venues, including the U.S. Supreme Court. He is the Life Coach for the Portland State University men’s basketball team. Bill humbly credits his wife JoAnn with being the brains and brawn behind Yakona Nature Preserve.
